Areas of Focus
In Uganda, stigma and poverty create major barriers to mental health care, especially for young people. Stigma brings shame, hopelessness, isolation, and hesitation to seek help, while poverty increases mental health risks and can be both cause and consequence of mental illness. Twogere breaks down these barriers through anti-stigma campaigning, economic empowerment, peer support, and strengthening community systems.
