RIEKO Community Based Organization is an intergenerational village organization based in rural Kisumu County, Kenya, committed to bridging the divide between youth, children, and elders. Through integrated programs in education, elderly care, and sustainable livelihoods, RIEKO advances quality learning by combining elder-mentored life skills with digital literacy, empowers young people through climate-smart farming and food security, and nurtures older adults with dignity and purpose. Its vision is one of communities where every generation is valued and connected—where culture, knowledge, and innovation converge to create resilient, inclusive futures.

Eltrud Okeyo is a community development and environmental professional, dedicated to bridging generational gaps in education and empowering rural communities in Kenya. Inspired by her grandmother’s mentorship, she founded RIEKO, an intergenerational school where elderly mentors guide children in life skills, storytelling, and cultural knowledge, while students teach elders digital literacy. Through programs like the Child-Elderly Pair Visit and Tech in the Garden, Eltrud combines sustainable agriculture, innovation, and education to foster resilience, self-reliance, and cultural connection. Her work addresses educational inequities, strengthens community ties, and nurtures a generation connected to both knowledge and environment.
